Pictures from the voluntary work done for ONOW at HortPark during the June Holidays below. So what did Fiona and I do? Guarded the Butterfly house, caught escaped butterflies, walked around the area admiring the greenery and just sat at the service counter using the computers. Hows that for value-added service learning? And now we're supposed to write a reflection 600-1000 words. Just kill me pleeeeeeesh. On the other hand, Ming and his group's helping out this less privileged family of four for their ONOW. So along I tagged, with them to meet the organizer first, this very pleasant lady, who than brought us to meet the family at their house. And what an eye opener it was. The moment I stepped into the dingy one-room flat, the first thing that hit me was the smell, a musky, unpleasant smell. And as we walked in, the stickiness of the floor was obvious. The walls were dirty and the flat was reallyyy tiny. There were just 6 of us, and yet we seemed to have occupied the whole house. It was THAT small. Their water supply had been cut off, leaving them to rely on the water that dripped from the taps, collecting them in old buckets for usage. And yet the mother, a mentally unstable woman with a low IQ, as we were told by the organizer, offered us packets of green tea. Of course we left them untouched, not out of disgust or anything but out of concern. There were two kids, and the younger one seemed to be like the mother, mentally disabled. And the worse problem for them, were the bedbugs that were constantly biting them. For god sake one was crawling right near my feet! Swell. Luckily we had brought insecticides along. Overall, very value-added indeed. I had never experienced anything like this before, had never even seen a one-room flat. I was like picturing what I'd be writing for my reflection if I had been in this. Do-able, if not easy. Garh. Oh, and i stepped on doggy pee there. NOT a pleasant experience.
But oh well, I did enjoyed myself at hortpark tho, FEEOHNA and I got to ride a buggy for the first time. Haha! Night ya'll.
